Mrs. Maxwell's Professional Site Home
Welcome to Mrs. Maxwell's Homeroom.

My name is Christina Maxwell. I have been teaching for three years in the Louisiana public school system. I've learned many life lessons in my profession. The importance of compassion, patients, and flexibility are only a few.
COLLEGE EXPERIENCE I had the pleasure of attending several Texas schools before moving to Louisiana. In fact, I had almost completed my college career, but had to begin again because of the requirement differences between the states. I student taught in what is called a Professional Development School. I was assigned all core subjects for 2-3 weeks per grade level from kindergarten - 4th and PE. I believe this is beneficial. It provides a more broad experience into each level and subject of elementary learning.

All Core Subjects
| I enjoy teaching the sciences and math the most, and Jr. High is my ideal level, however, I am learning that first grade is loads of fun also.
PROFESSIONAL DUTIES I have shared responsibilities and worked to make my school a positive environment for my children.
-
I was a 4-H sponsor for 7th and 8th graders.
-
I was a flag corps sponsor for 7th and 8th graders.
-
I am currently the Jr. Beta Sponsor for 5th and 6th graders.
-
I am the technology facilitator for our school. This means that I serve as a liaison between my colleagues and the school board. Any computer problem is seen by me first. Then, if no solution can be found, it is sent to the school board office. The technology facilitator is also responsible for creating a school wide technology plan. This is an in-depth document that is aligned to our parish and state technology plans.
-
I report regularly and promptly for any campus duties assigned.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
I enjoy attending professional development courses that are offered by the St. Landry School System. The following is a list of many courses I have completed.

PERSONAL HOBBIES
-
Travel - Every good educator sees a lesson in everything that they do and everywhere they go. My most exciting trip was to Cozumel where I got to see the Maya ruins which I teach about in my Social Studies classes. I was able to bring back many pictures and souvenirs that added depth and reality to my lessons. My students also love the stories that I enjoy sharing.
-
Recreational Sports - I spent time playing volleyball and hockey, however my busy schedule and three kids keep me too busy now. I have begun kickboxing to provide exercise. I find it easier to keep up with 20 first graders when I am in shape.
-
SCUBA - I enjoy exploring the depths of the ocean. And using my experiences and knowledge gained from the sport to teach lessons in my science classes.
-
Camping - I love to get away with my family. We relax and enjoy the simplicity of nature and each other.
-
Animals - I am an all around "animal lover." My newest baby is my Great Dane, Loki. I have had exotic animals like ferrets and miniture rabbits. I currently have 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 fish.
FUTURE PLANS
I have been contemplating getting my secondary certification in math or Biology. I enjoy Geometry and Algebra. I have also been contemplating getting my masters in Classroom Technology. Either way, my school career is not complete.
WORDS TO REMEMBER An educator must always remember that a teacher has the power to touch a child's life and change that child's heart. What you do and say may impact that child with lifelong results. It is up to the educator to determine whether the impact is positive or negative.
